It's a sad thing to say goodbye to someone, and especially hard for racers following all the deaths last year at Fonda Speedway. Let's hope this doesn't become a trend around here. We really don't need a year like last year again.
That aside, my condolences to Marilyn and all of Manard's family and friends. I only met him a few times and have gotten to know Eric Mack pretty well. Maynard was a real blast, a real funny old school type of racer who, as they have said, if he didn't like the things that were going on, he was going to call you on them. That earned my respect. Someone who calls it like he sees it is very refreshing.
I also know how much he loved Eric and "his boys" the Constantino's. I talked to him in the pits a few years ago when Eric was just getting into the Queens Machine, and he was as proud as a peacock. He loved to talk all about "his boys" and getting them ready.
Here's hoping Eric and Dave get him a win this year. It will be a victory lane you won't want to miss.
Rest in Peace Maynard, you will be missed.
