Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

Thanks to all for the responses.  This week on the FOX BOX, we'll be asking for your selection on the boys player of the year.  Next week is the girls, so still time to get a nomination in to us.  Post it here, or e-mail to sports@fox23news.com.

    Thanks for watching,

    Rich

I agree.  Scoring a goal with 3 seconds to play against a talented and hig pressuring Niskayuna in the Sectional Finals..Not many players can step up and take control in that situation. Especially when you have been man marked well all game, never left alone. Barone always seems to get the job done!

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

Rich, just a heads up.  Albany Academy will join the Colonial Council next year for soccer and perhaps hoops.  Since the recent "realignment" Section II has informed the Academies that that the girls will now have to play in the Colonial.  Parents are up in arms about this move. The parents are against the realignment, joining the Colonial Council is a secondary concern.  During the recent open house at the Academies this information was not even mentioned.  Perhaps some investigating should be done.

Thanks for the heads up. I always thought it was odd that the girls play CHVL while the boys play in the CC.  Not sure what you mean by Section II realignment.  Please tell me more here or in a personal e-mail to richbecker@fox23news.com.

    Thanks,

    Rich

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I've found all the different views on what Soccer Player of the Year should be........  All very good points.  But  I still think that one player stands out and it's not because of all the goals she's made during any game, big or small.  I've seen this player pulled off the top line to play midfield  during 3 games this season and occasionally defense, and still produce.  Although her strenght is definitly being a striker, she's quite capable of playing a defensive roll on her team.  This is what an all around player and top soccer player should be capable of.  That's why I'm posting my vote for Ashley Wilson from RCS.

Barone may be a great player, but she "always seems to get the job done"??  Not today.  Barone was a non-factor as she was outplayed by Cicero-North Syracuse's stopper, and Shen was knocked out of states for the second time in three years by that team.  (...can I vote for the CNS girl for POTY?)

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

"NOT TODAY", You are right, but how about every other day!  What team has Shen ever played for the last 5 years that the coach did not create a game plan to stop Barone.  Just ask the Bethlehem coach.  Do you NOT think the CNS coach was at the Skaker/shen game watching Ashley single-handedly man handle thier defense?  Do you not think they had scouts watching Ashley score with three seconds left in the Nisky game winning the section II title.  There is no quit in Ashley, certainly a characteristic of a youth who should be voted PLAYER OF THE YEAR.  Congrats to that CNS stopper, she may have gotten your vote because she shut out the best player in a hundred mile radius, but the last I remember it takes more than that to win player of the year.  Ashley Barrone gets my vote.  Not because of her goals and her assists but by her undaunting tenacity, pure talent, and her never-ending work rate!!!!  Siena college has just discovered the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Barone #1. Five years on varsity; always double-teamed; has unbelievable character; a leader. What more can you ask for? Regarding CNS game, she played with guts, determination and drive  every minute. She was literally kicked in the stomach, punched, took elbows off the ball...she just came back at them harder and harder...she isn't the player of the year...she is Player of the Decade!

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

Ashliegh Barone gets my vote for player of the year, this isn't even a contest.  We have been talking about shutting her down for five years and EVERY team Shen plays designs their defense around stopping her.  As far as the CNS game, there has never been a player in any sport that has won every game or carried their team in every situation. For that game the CNS girl gets "player of the game", but we are not talking about player of the game, we are talking about player of the year.  Stop hating and give the girl the credit she deserves.  Ashliegh Barone is the player of the year and Siena is lucky to have a player like her.

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

To who ever posted about barone "getting the job done today"  you really sound like a parent whos daughter plays socceer and is not has talented has barone. Shen did not win but they all played very hard and getting the job done is when you try your best, and barone always plays hard.maybe you should pay more attention instead of wishing your daughter could play like her, also look up the word jealous.

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I must say that as the parent of one of the top 5 girls, I'm really disappointed in the negativity of the comment toward Ashleigh Barone. My daughter has had the opportunity to play in the Empire State Games with this young lady and she gives you nothing but her all.  I've seen the other girls play as well and anyone that plays soccer and knows what it's like to be double and triple teamed all the time should  take their hat off to these girls.  It's not an easy thing to constantly fight people off and still maintain enought composure to put the ball in the net under those circumstances. Not only do these girls have to fight off their opponents, but now the fans as well......These girls are praised  when they've come through for their teams and when they can't seem to get that one goal in to bring home another victory how quickly we forget how much they've already given of themselves, sometimes playing the entire game and going into overtime and yet they still find it with in themselves to dig just a little bit deeper and give you more.  Dig within yourself and look at what these girls have done......

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

You make Barone sound as if she's the best thing  since sliced bread. NEWS FLASH, she isn't.  She finished with 22 goals 6 assists. Her competition, Caitlin Cahalan and AShley Wilson had way more meaning to their teams than her. While Wilson did have 41 goals and 6 assists but she played Class B vs. easier teams, def. not Shens, Bethlehems, BH, Niskys, and Shakers. Caitlin Cahalan finished with 34 goals and 7 assists vs the same competition Barone faced. Her team certainly had less "stars" than Barone had around her. Cahalan meant more to her team, scoring almost half of their goals and being 3rd in assists. Shen could survive without Barone. There's plenty of talent in the Desimones and others. Shaker doesnt have that depth. Caitlin Cahalan: player of the year based on sheer numbers, level of competitoin, and support of team.

our family has known ashleigh barone for years . back before her first pair of soccer cleats.  and over rated would be the most   INACCURATE   way to describe the talented  young woman ashleigh barone is.  siena college will be a great fit as we can still follow the star player of the last dacade close to home   way to go ash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
