Re: 2007 SECTION TWO GIRLS SOCCER

I am not sure if anyone is aware of this but Albany Academy for Girls soccer team is undefeated this year.  What you also may not realize is that two of their starters are 8th graders and three of their starters are freshmen.  The 8th grade midfielder (who was a starter in 7th grade) is number in 9 in goals scored. The other 8th grader is a starting defender.  One of the freshman midfielders is number one in goals for the entire capital district.  Academy doesn't get much press, but we are "pressing" on.

Brackets are up at www.fox23news.com, click on the high school sports show page.

What do you think?  Guess we know how strong the Suburban Council is when a 5-10-3 team gets the top seed in Class A.  Burnt Hills deserves it, I think.

     Any other oddities or surprises????

    JV Vs. Varsity Soccer

What is the rule for High School Girls soccer?  Can Seniors play on a JV team?

If so, is there a limit as to how many can play on the team and the team still be considered JV?

Is that fair to JV players?

Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

Not sure on those rules, but I'll check on them and get back to you here.

While I'm here.. let's hear it girls soccer fans.  Which player should be the FOX23 Girls Soccer player of the year.

So far, we've heard about Caitlin Cahalan of Shaker, Ashleigh Barone of Shen and Ashley Wilson of RCS.  Thoughts on those players, or some ideas of your own???

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I exchanged e-mails with Nina Van Erk, the executive director of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  She said by state rules, seniors are allowed on JV teams, but added that many leagues have rules of their own.  Let me know which league you are referring to and I will check into it further.

    Thanks for writing,

    Rich

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I would like to vote for Caitlin Cahalan, she was the leading scorer in the suburban council, the best league in NYS,  by ten goals, she recorded five hat tricks in council play, no one else had more than two, she had 6 hat tricks overall, 33 goals total, and she has led her team to the best record in school history.

If you judge by individual acheivment, or team success, played against the toughest competition, then she deserves it.

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I would like to vote for Ashley Wilson from RCS.  She's leading scorer in section ll with 41 goals, as well as leading in points.  Although she plays in a smaller division doesn't mean she has to work any less.  She helped her team to make it to the finals for the first time in school history.  Caitlin from Shaker  and Ashleigh from Shen are great players, and they have alot of  support behind them  from some of the best premire players in the area.  In Ashley's school they're aren't alot of girls that have the desire to play at a higher level, not saying that they don't have some talented players because they do, put I believe this makers her work even harder and makes her a great  choice,  because win or lose, she never stops trying.

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I would like to vote for Ashley Wilson from RCS.  I don't know what you base this on, but I think being strong and consistant throughout you high school years should hold some merrit.. Ashley was the leading scorer in 7th and 8th grade on the JV Team and in 9th grade on Varsity she was 2nd in goals.  She's been leading scorer on Varsity in 10th and 11th grade as well as leading scorer in all of Section 2.  All good reasons as to why she should be player of the year.

Re: Reponse and request for Girls Soccer Player of the Year ideas

I would like to vote for Ashley Wilson from RCS for soccer player of the year. She is an outstanding player and has consistently proved that she is worthy of such a title. Her stats speak for themselves and anyone who has seen her play, knows win or lose, she never gives up and gives everything she has the entire game, every game.

Re: Player of the Year - Annie Mullen

    Hello,

We would like to see more press on Hoosick Falls.  They have a 20-0 record and were State Champs. 2 years ago.  There are some very talented players on this team.  Four of the girls play for Capital United out Albany yr. round.

Anyway, would you consider a defender as player of the year?  I know these awards usually go to forwards, based on goals, but a defender with goals and assists would be a great story!

Annie Mullen, a 5 yr. starter (she started as an 8th grader), and has been a captain for 2 years, has some great stats.

She is ranked #1 in Section II for assists as a defender, tied 10th for goals scored and tied for 4th for total points.  She was All-State 2nd Team last yr. and 1st Team All-Region and Class CC

You might remember she had the assist on the winning goal when we won States. I know you have the footage.

Annie was also named as a player of the week by the Times Union last yr. Her #'s will only go up if we keep winning.

She is also President of the Student Council, is in SADD, Youth Summit, International Club, Band, Drama, and plays Basketball and Softball.

Thank you for your time, Annie is an incrediable player and is a great representative of Section II.
