    Why not Make them States?

    Mere Simile

When you climb a ladder to the roof

you must take rungs one by one

    then why ask Iraqi citizens

to start their nation at the top?

When we claimed freedom from the crown

in trust our laws would bring us into one

    that taught those thirteen sovereignties

to share joint ventures under God,

we knew some highways must be built

and there were wars to fight, so we sang

one anthem to one flag right in world view

    as foreign nations

saw we gave our state flags

    some proper credit due

    but fought as one

    united in

    experimental federation.

    Puritans, Anglicans disagree,

our Amish are still hiding just like Kurds

but through it all,as we did,

the many can become the few,

    the United States of Iraq.

To fight outsiders each chip in some men,

let Sunni share in oil, start local tribes

to regional ‘meet’  then state and at the end

a federal court can force fair trials for all

in this new United States of Iraq.

    Sovereign rule is not partition,

    Massachusetts is a Commonwealth

    and Virginia still wants slaves!

Militias are like our state guards

who use to kill each other too.

    Catholics, Moslems, Jews

    could verbally still fight

in the United States of Iraq.

Start on the first step, separate,

each get your own new flag and name.

Find the issues upon which you all say yea.

Bind yourselves aboard your common goal.

Make it work, it has been done before,

    UAE, EU, even Soviet Block;

unless you are too lazy or you think

this is too hard a chore.
