Food Pantries for the Capital District (FPCD) will host their 14th annual community auction to raise money for ongoing community services including their Food Warehouse, Food Express delivery project and Food Shuttle food rescue project. More than 100 local families are expected to attend the event where they will enter tickets for the prizes that pique their interest while eating ziti, enjoying the music of the Shaker High Jazz Band, and—for the younger attendees—face painting with a clown.
The grand prize, donated by Southwest Airlines, is round-trip tickets for two anywhere the airline flies. There are over 100 other prizes from local vendors including Honest Weight, Gingerman, TJ’s Café, The Egg, Albany River Rats, SPAC, Capital Repertory Theater, and the Kripalu Center.
The Annual Community Auction is one of the Food Pantries for the Capital District’s major funding events. All proceeds go to supporting the coalition in meeting their goal of eliminating hunger in our community.
FPCD, founded in 1979 as a small coalition of community food pantries, has ballooned into an umbrella organization supplementing the work of 45 food pantries in the Capital District collectively serving upwards of 2 million meals annually. FPCD is responding to the needs of struggling families in our area who have been hit by soaring food and energy prices.
Doors open at 12:30 pm; ticket drawing at 2pm
