Big New Site Addition!!

We have added a large section to our website all about you and your content. Our new User Content section offers a number of sections for you to upload and share videos and photos you have.

Along with the ability to share videos and photos with others we have a few specialty areas in this new section like: Community News, In the Kitchen, and Birthday Greetings. You can check all of them out here.

This is also where our Community Calendar is moving to try and help serve you better.

And hey, if there is something you would like to share but it does not fit in one of the categories, drop it into "Just for Fun" or let us know and we will make a new category to fit what you would like to share.

New Site Feature - In Page Video

This new feature has been up and running for a little bit, but I thought I would take a few moments and explain all the different features available to you with this addition to our site.

Let me say first that if you prefer the old way of watching our videos, you can still do that. Just click on "Videos" in the top navigation bar and you will be taken to our Media Center.

OK now to the new player. You may have noticed this on many of our main pages, and on a number of our story pages. It looks like this:

The arrow facing right is the play button click it and the video will play right there in the page you are on.

The 3 boxes at the bottom of the player are thumbnail images of other videos available in this player. You can also use the arrow buttons to scroll through the thumbnails and see more videos. The newest 10 videos load into the in page player.

There are some other interesting buttons on the player window that you can see above, and I will explain each of those.

At the top we have the "Embed Code" button . Clicking this will bring up an overlay on the video window:

Here you can highlight the code in the window, or click the "Copy to Clipboard" button to grab a copy of the code. This code is used so you can put a copy of this video on your own web page. Once you have copied the code, open the code for your own website and paste this in, that will put this video on your website! The "Cancel" button closes this overlay and brings you back to watching the main video window.

The next button we see is the Email button . You can use this to send an Email with a link to the video you are watching to someone else. Clicking this will bring up an overlay on the video window:

Here you just fill out the form with your own email address, the email address of the person you want to send the video to and any comments you would like sent along with the link. Click "Send" to send the video or "Cancel" and you will be returned watching the main video window.

The last button is the Fullscreen button . Clicking this will make the video you are watching expand to take up your entire screen. Clicking the button again in full screen mode will return you to in page video viewing.

New Site Feature - Story Comments

We have added story comments to the site recently and I would like to take a few seconds to show you what to look for and how you use this new feature.

At the bottom of stories that you can add a comment to you will now see an "Add a comment" link.

This will take you either to the screen where you can leave a story comment, or to where you can register for an account so you can leave a comment.

If you would like to read other people's comments, click the "Comments" link:

This will take you to a screen where you can read what other people have said about the story you have just read.

From time to time comments will be highlighted and placed on the same page as the original story text.

Our new look

fox23news.com has undegone quite a makeover. It would be impossible for me to list the number of things that have changed. We have done it in order to create an easier, cleaner, more friendly website for you to use.

I will post a list of some of the big changes you should check out in a few days, today I would really like to know - What do you think? Likes, dislikes, good, bad, let me know!

Calling all shutterbugs!!

We have added a new function to this little area of cyberspace. Share your photos with others! I have set up two main photo galleries for photo sharing. "Weather Images" is for just that, photos you have taken of the weather.

The other is more flexible, it is named "Your Photos" and is for just that. Any image you may have that you would like to share can be added there. I have set up a number of albums int the "Your Photos: gallery to start off with: Animal Photos, Capital Region Having Fun, Historic Photos, and Nature Photos. Don't think you are confined by those albums, post whatever you would like to share, and if there isn't an album it would fit in, I will make one!

In order to help keep it clean, it may take up to 24 hours from the time you submit your image until it is posted to an album.

Whooo... well I hope I have given you all a kickstart in the forums, I have tried to give you stuff to look at to get you going anyway.

I will be poking arround the FOX23 Community area everyday to see what everyone is up to, hopefully all will be good. This section was a big way that we are hoping to make our website more of a two way street.

Let me know what you think, and if there is anything else we can do to make your experience here at fox23news.com better!
