Barbaro is your Kentucky Derby winner. The 132nd installment of the Run for the Roses was a bit anticlimactic because of the horse's six and a half length win, but the story behind Barbaro is once again a good one.
Now, let's hope the horse and its story ends up running in the Travers Stakes this August in Saratoga. Barbaro will most likely be pointed toward the Midsummer Derby, but the time in between has a way of spoiling Kentucky Derby winner's plans. The previous ten winners at Churchill Downs have not run in the Travers mainly because of injuries. Thunder Gulch was the last to win the Derby and run in the Travers --- that was 1995, Thunder Gulch won at Saratoga too.
Regardless of who runs, the Travers is a classic race. The field and crowd will be super (pending the weather), but the excitement of having Barbaro run the million dollar race certainly could be great especially if he goes onto win the Preakness and/or the Belmont Stakes.
